Bugle Weed - Whole - Lycopus americanus

Bugle Weed is a herbaceous perennial belonging to the mint family, Lamiaceae, and is naturally found in moist environments across North America. Scientifically known as Lycopus americanus, the plant is commonly associated with marshes, wet meadows, and other areas where the soil remains consistently damp.

The plant develops upright stems with leaves arranged along their length and produces small clusters of pale flowers near the points where the leaves meet the stems. Bugle Weed is sometimes described as an “odorless mint” because, despite its botanical relationship to the mint family, it has little of the characteristic fragrance associated with many mint species.

Bugle Weed has a history of use in traditional folk and Eclectic herbal practices. It is traditionally regarded as a bitter, cooling botanical and has been prepared in various herbal applications. The name Lycopus is derived from Greek terms associated with a wolf's paw, referring to the shape of the plant's leaves.

Bugle Weed should be distinguished from other plants commonly called bugle or carpet bugle, as these belong to different botanical genera.

Suggested Uses

Whole Bugle Weed can be traditionally prepared as:

  • Herbal infusions
  • Herbal teas
  • Traditional botanical preparations
  • Herbal formulations

For therapeutic applications, use according to the guidance of a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Storage
